Watford-based National Lottery in biggest change in 25 years

A new format is giving lottery players more chances to win big.

Allwyn, the National Lottery operator based in Watford, has launched changes to its flagship Lotto draw, offering players two chances to win on every £2 line.

The first draw under the new format took place on June 10. Matt Turmaine, Watford’s MP, joined in by purchasing a ticket from Premier Stores on Woodford Road ahead of the launch.

Mr Turmaine said: “This change improves players’ chances of winning any price form 1-in-9.3 to 1-in-4.9 and is expected to more than double the number of Lotto millionaires made from around 140 a year to 345. So, it is fingers doubly crossed.”

Allwyn said the new system offers two separate chances to win per draw while keeping the same ticket price.

Andria Vidler, CEO of Allwyn, said: “We’re delivering on our promise to bring more games, more entertainment and more innovation to The National Lottery. Lotto has always been the best game to play if you want to become a millionaire.”

The changes are also designed to increase returns to Good Causes.
