Megabucks jackpot reaches record $26.95 million

DORCHESTER, Mass. (WWLP) – The Massachusetts Megabucks jackpot has climbed to a record $26.95 million ahead of Saturday’s drawing.

The estimated jackpot for the Aug. 15 drawing is $26.95 million, with a cash option of $17.84 million. According to data provided by Lottery Post, it is the largest jackpot in Megabucks history and the game’s biggest jackpot since 1985.

The previous record was a $21.71 million jackpot won in October 1985. The third-largest jackpot was $21.15 million in January 1986.

The largest Megabucks jackpot won on a single ticket was $16.35 million in the Sept. 10, 2022, drawing. That ticket was sold in Ware when the game was known as Megabucks Doubler. Megabucks was redesigned in 2023 and returned to its original name. The game first launched in 1982.

The Megabucks jackpot was last won on April 21, 2025, when a $1.97 million prize was claimed on a ticket sold in Hyde Park.

Megabucks tickets cost $2 and are available only in Massachusetts. Tickets for Saturday’s drawing can be purchased until 9 p.m., with drawings held Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9 p.m.

The Mega Millions jackpot for Friday’s drawing is an estimated $90 million, with a $38.7 million cash option. Meanwhile, Saturday’s Powerball jackpot is estimated at $20 million, with an $8.7 million cash option.

Players must be at least 18 years old to purchase tickets at retail locations and at least 21 years old to purchase tickets online.
