Long Island store sells $5 million lottery ticket to Virginia woman

A Virginia woman passing through Long Island struck it rich with a New York Lottery scratch-off ticket that guaranteed her at least $5 million.

Claudia Torres of Sterling, Virginia, claimed a $5,000 A Week For Life top prize on the Set For Life game, New York Lottery officials announced. Top prize winners on the ticket are guaranteed a minimum payout of $5 million.

Torres opted to take the cash value of the annuity prize and received a one-time lump sum payment of $2.32 million after required withholdings.

She purchased the winning ticket at Tirth Supermarket, located at 83 Doughty Blvd. in Inwood.

As of this writing, three top prizes remained on the Set For Life ticket. Players can check the status of any New York Lottery scratch-off by downloading the game report at nylottery.ny.gov.
