Two weeks ago, a $5 ticket made someone in Florida a multimillionaire − thanks to Mega Millions. Because as they say in the lottery business, “it could happen to you.”
The $800 million Mega Millions jackpot was actually the latest in big wins from Florida, including a record-setting win in the billion-dollar range. Since 2014, Mega Millions has seen six jackpots from the Sunshine State totaling a whopping $3,760,000,000. Unfortunately, one of the multimillion-dollar grand prizes was left unclaimed (see below).
While the most recent mystery Mega Millions winner in Florida has yet to come forward, per the Florida Lottery, here’s a look back at those six Mega Millions jackpot wins in Florida, where the tickets were sold, who took the cash and who won the prizes.
After 37 rollovers in a lottery streak that started after St. Patrick’s Day, that jackpot was close to reaching $1 billion and was already in the Top 10 biggest prizes for Mega Millions in the history of the game. Alas, it ended when one ticket from Bradenton, Florida, matched all five numbers plus the Mega Ball to a tune of $800 million in the Tuesday, July 28, 2026, Mega Millions drawing.
Final ticket sales pushed the grand total to $803 million, Mega Millions reported.
On Wednesday, July 29, Florida Lottery officials reported the winner bought a ticket from a Wawa gas station in Bradenton, Florida, near the Tampa area.
“We are thrilled to congratulate Florida’s newest Mega Millions jackpot winner on this incredible, life-changing moment,” Florida Lottery Secretary Reginald Dixon said in a news release. “This win is an exciting reminder that every ticket carries the possibility of a dream come true.”
The winning numbers for the Mega Millions drawing on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, were 34-48-49-59-70 and the Mega Ball was 12.
Wawa, 14510 State Road 70 E, Bradenton, Florida, sold the winning ticket.
The winner can choose between the advertised $800 million annuity or an estimated $344.2 million cash option before taxes, Mega Millions and Florida Lottery officials state.
To claim a single-payment cash option, a winner has the first 60 days after the applicable draw date to claim it, or Saturday, Sept. 26, 2026. For annual payments, the $803 million Mega Millions winner has until Sunday, Jan. 24, 2027, or 180 days from Tuesday, July 28, 2026.

According to the Florida Lottery, there have been six Mega Millions jackpot wins since 2014 in Florida totaling more than $3.6 billion in prizes. However, one of the jackpot prizes expired and the winner lost out on a $36 million prize.

- On March 3, 2014, Sunoco, 600 S. Courtenay Parkway, Merritt Island, Florida, sold a Mega Millions quick pick ticket worth $400 million. “Cobie and Seamus Trust Dated April 21, 2014” of Merritt Island, Florida, claimed the one-time lump sum cash option, taking home $115,448,968.
- On Jan. 5, 2018, 7-Eleven, 7131 Ridge Road, Port Richey, Florida, sold a Mega Millions quick pick ticket worth $450 million. “Secret 007 LLC” in Palm Harbor, Florida, claimed the one-time lump sum cash option, taking home $281,874,999.
- On Oct. 14, 2022, 7-Eleven, 2980 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, Florida, sold a Mega Millions quick pick ticket worth $494 million. “Pineapple Trust” in Bonita Springs, Florida, claimed the one-time lump sum cash option, taking home $126,004,016.
- On Aug. 8, 2023, Publix, 630 Atlantic Blvd., Neptune Beach, Florida, sold a Mega Millions quick pick ticket worth $1.58 billion — final ticket sales pushed the grand total to $1.602 billion. “Saltines Holdings LLC” of Miami, Florida, claimed the cash option, bringing home $794,248,882.
- Ouch! On Aug. 15, 2023, one week after the record-setting $1.602 billion Mega Millions win, Publix, 4495 Roosevelt Blvd., Suite E-1, Jacksonville, Florida, sold a Mega Millions quick pick ticket worth $36 million. The winner never came forward — deadline is 60 days for the cash option or 180 days for annual payments — and the $36 million jackpot expired.
- On Tuesday, July 28, 2026, Wawa, 14510 State Road 70 E, Bradenton, Florida, sold a Mega Millions quick pick ticket worth $800 million — although final ticket sales pushed it to $803 million. As of Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026, two weeks after the drawing, the $803 million jackpot remains “unclaimed at this time,” according to Florida Lottery records online.
