Leander resident claims share of $20 million Powerball jackpot – AOL
AUSTIN (KXAN) — A Leander resident who purchased a winning Powerball ticket has claimed half of the $20 million jackpot, the Texas Lottery said in a press release Wednesday.
Lottery officials said the winning ticket sold at a QuikTrip off Crystal Falls Parkway in Leander matched all six numbers drawn May 2: 25-37-42-52-65, Powerball 14. A second jackpot-winning ticket was sold in Florida for the same drawing, so the two winners shared the grand prize, according to lottery officials.
‘I was stunned’
The claimant purchased the winning ticket during a morning coffee run at QuikTrip, the Texas Lottery said in the release.
“I’m not a regular lottery player, but I saw on a billboard that there had recently been a big jackpot, so the next morning when I stopped in a QuikTrip for coffee, I bought a Powerball ticket,” the claimant said. “A few days later we were out running errands when I noticed the ticket in my wallet and I thought to myself, ‘I need to check that so I can toss it.’ Only, this time when I checked it, I saw that I’d won. I was stunned…”
Lottery officials said the winning Powerball jackpot on May 2 came just one drawing after the previous Powerball jackpot won in the April 29 drawing when two tickets sold outside of Texas shared the $143 million jackpot prize.
