A Monroe County man won big in the Fantasy 5 drawing in early August, claiming the jackpot prize of more than $300,000.
Chris Sparks, 58, of Carleton, bought a ticket with the matching numbers in the Aug. 4 drawing, claiming the $331,239 jackpot, the Michigan Lottery announced in an Aug. 27 news release.
“I had some money in my online account from a previous Fantasy 5 win, so I used it to buy another ticket,” Sparks said in the release. “I was talking to my wife later that night when a I got a notification that I’d received an email from the Michigan Lottery. When I saw the prize amount in the email I yelled: ‘You’ve got to be joking!’ I had to log in to my account and check my balance to make sure it was real.
Sparks claimed his jackpot prize at the Michigan Lottery headquarters in Lansing, the release said.
He plans to use his winnings to buy a new truck, share with those close to him and then save the remaining money, per the release.
“It’s hard to explain the feeling of winning a prize like this. It’s like everything got easier in an instant,” Sparks said.
