Indian man opens bank account in UAE on an app, two months later, wins Rs 5 crore reward

An Indian-origin man living in Abu Dhabi has won a grand cash prize of 2 million AED (around Rs 5.15 crore) in Sharjah Islamic Bank’s (SIB) ‘Millionaire campaign’. The 34-year-old winner, Shajeer Venga, became eligible for the reward after opening a savings account with the bank less than two months ago through its digital app.

Venga’s unexpected win came as part of SIB’s savings-linked rewards programme, which has been offering cash prizes and luxury rewards to customers. Along with him, Emirati national Moza Butti won a BMW XM, while around 40 other participants received cash prizes.

‘Life-changing reward’ for Indian-origin winner

Speaking about his win, Venga said the prize fulfilled a dream he had carried for a long time. He told Khaleej Times that he had learned about the SIB campaign earlier and always hoped he could become one of its winners.

“The Dh2 million prize will be life-changing,” Venga told the Emirati publication, adding that the money will help him invest in his future and bring his family from India to live with him in the UAE.


“Sharjah Islamic Bank delivered its promise, turning what was once an aspiration into reality,” he added.

How SIB’s ‘Millionaire’ campaign works

Sharjah Islamic Bank launched the “Millionaire” campaign in 2025 as a savings rewards programme aimed at encouraging customers to maintain eligible deposit accounts.The campaign offers more than 20 million AED in yearly prizes, including cash rewards and luxury vehicles.

Under the scheme, customers receive one entry into regular draws for every 10,000 AED deposited in their savings account. These entries give account holders a chance to win major cash prizes and other rewards.

Bank says campaign aims to support customers’ ambitions

Nabil Abou Alwan, head of retail banking at Sharjah Islamic Bank, said the programme was designed to create opportunities for customers and support their financial goals.

Next SIB draw to offer bigger cash prizes

According to the report, the upcoming SIB draw will feature two major cash prizes worth 1 million AED each. One of the prizes will be reserved for UAE nationals, while the other will remain open for participants from all nationalities.
