Winning lottery ticket worth $78 million expires soon: Where was it sold?
A lucky lottery winner has one month to come forward to claim a $78 million jackpot or else the money will go back to the state of Texas. According to the Texas State Lottery, the player has until 5 p.m. CT on May 14, 2026 to claim their winnings.
Under Texas state law, players have 180 days from the drawing date to claim their prize or the money goes to the state for programs authorized by the legislature. The deadline can be extended for certain eligible military personnel.
In this case, the winner matched all six numbers drawn — 7-17-23-28-39-48 — for the Lotto Texas drawing held on Nov. 15, 2025. The ticket was purchased at Gordon’s Bait & Tackle, located at 7066 Padre Island Highway, in Brownsville.
To collect the prize, the winner must contact the Texas Lottery to make an appointment to claim it in person. The prize must be claimed at Lottery headquarters in Austin. The cash value of the jackpot is worth $43.7 million before taxes.
