Officials said that what makes this incident especially concerning is that the victim was engaged in normal daily activities outdoors and did not provoke or taunt the skunk before being bitten.

Thankfully, the person is currently receiving the appropriate medical treatment and is expected to recover, but this serves as an important reminder that rabies remains a serious public health concern across New York State.
