There are lots of events happening in Kill over the coming weeks.
There was no winner of this week’s lotto jackpot. Next week’s jackpot is €7,550. The numbers drawn were 4, 11, 16 and 19. Congratulations to James Fitzgerald, Anne Roche and Anne Torpey, who matched three numbers. Best of luck to all players in the next draw.
The Community Text Alert Service remains active and is open to all members of the public. Messages issued include notifications from the Gardaí, Met Éireann and other relevant agencies, helping to keep the community informed. Anyone wishing to join the service can contact Kill Action Group on 086 3772945.
Kill Action Group is a registered provider for the Senior Alert Scheme, which provides a personal monitored alarm for people aged 65 and over who live alone, or with another person who meets the eligibility criteria, within the local area. The alarm can be worn as a pendant or wrist device and, when activated, sends a call to a 24-hour monitoring centre. The equipment is supplied free of charge, although a monitoring fee applies. The response to The Men Who Sank Beneath the Sea, written by Kilmacthomas native Tom O’Brien and performed by Gealach Gorm Theatre Group at Kill Community Centre, has been extraordinary. The production tells the story of the men, women and families whose lives were shaped by the copper mining era in Bunmahon. Due to overwhelming demand and sold-out performances, an additional performance has been added on Sunday, August 9, at 8pm. Combining drama, video, music, storytelling and local heritage, the production brings the story of the Bunmahon copper mines vividly to life. Tickets are expected to sell quickly and can be booked through Powertik or by contacting 086 8569358.
The Checkers provided excellent entertainment at Wednesday night’s social dancing in Kill Community Centre. Glen Flynn will provide the music on Wednesday, August 5, from 9pm to 11.30pm. Complimentary tea, coffee and refreshments will be served. On Sunday afternoons, social dancing continues from 3pm to 6pm, with Bernie Heaney providing the music on August 9. Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy an afternoon of music, dancing and refreshments.
The Kill Community Support Group, supported by Kill Community Centre, operates a confidential telephone support line on 089 4966951. The group aims to ensure every member of the community has access to support when feeling overwhelmed, isolated or struggling with day-to-day life. The service is available to anyone in the local area and provides support, advice and a listening ear.
Michelle from Imagine Fitness has updated her class timetable. Classes include rebound fitness, HIIT sessions and body sculpting. Further information and class times can be found on the Imagine Fitness Facebook page. All fitness levels are catered for and newcomers are always welcome.
