Delivery driver wins millions in lottery, returns to old workplace with gifts

ESSEX, U.K. (WKRC) – A delivery driver quit his job after winning millions in the lottery, but returned to his former workplace a year later with gifts for his coworkers.
After winning nearly $7 million (5.2m) from a lottery in 2025, 61-year-old Gary MacDonald quit his job as a delivery driver at Lakeside Shopping Centre, the Independent reported. MacDonald said he spent 30 years delivering packages around the shopping complex before his big win.
MacDonald told the outlet that he promised himself that he would return to his former workplace to share his good fortune after he used the money to marry his partner and settle down in a new home.
“It’s been a crazy 12 months, from discovering I’d won a 5.2m Lotto jackpot and starring in the Lotto TV ad, to getting married and moving house,” MacDonald said. “That said, I’m delighted to come out of retirement for the day to fulfil the promise I made myself.”
MacDonald brought his coworkers each a bouquet and a lottery ticket of their own, the outlet reported.
“He absolutely didn’t need to do this, but I’m so touched that he has,” said Donna Samuels, a store manager who worked with MacDonald. “Then again, Gary sharing the joy is typical of him, just goes to show what a diamond he is.”
“I’ve always taken great pride in doing a job well and that’s what I did all those years at Lakeside, but what really made it was the many people I’d see daily,” MacDonald said. “With a friendly wave, a few words, or on a rare occasion, a cup of tea, we built connections, so when I hit the Lotto jackpot, those people who had been such a part of my daily working life were always in my plans.”
