Lotto Max: Newly retired Alberta couple wins $100K — and these 3 practical purchases top their shopping list – AOL

A newly retired Alberta couple is taking a practical approach to their lottery win. Diane and Brian Low of Cochrane won $100,000 with Extra and a Free Play on their Lotto Max ticket in the March 27, 2026 draw. Now, they have the chance to make a few long-awaited purchases without disrupting the careful plans they have already made for retirement.

“We’re planning to purchase a new computer, a new printer, and a sewing machine,” Brian said while claiming his prize with the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC). “We will share some with our family and save the rest!”

Although the six-figure prize gives the couple plenty to celebrate, Diane said they have handled the news more calmly than they might have expected.

“We’re calmer than we expected to be about this win,” she said. “We just recently retired, so this came at the perfect time!”

The winning ticket was purchased by Brian during a routine grocery run. Diane later scanned it using the Lotto Spot app and was stunned when the prize appeared on the screen.

“My hands started shaking!” Diane said, recalling the moment she discovered the win. “I checked the numbers on the website to confirm, and I told my husband as soon as he got home!”

Once Brian returned and heard the news, the couple sat down together at their table to discuss how the unexpected money could fit into their future.

“Once I learned about the win, we sat down at our table and talked about it,” Brian said. “We’re planning what to do with it and I think we’ve got it figured out.”

The Lows purchased their winning Lotto Max and Extra ticket from Save-On-Foods, located at 65 Bow Street in Cochrane, Alta.

They won the $100,000 prize by matching the last six digits of the March 27, 2026 Extra draw. The winning number was 2288500.

Lotto Max draws take place twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays, with jackpots starting at $10 million and growing up to $90 million, with additional Maxmillions prizes offered when the jackpot reaches $50 million. Tickets cost $6 and include four sets of numbers, giving players multiple chances to win with each play. In Western Canada, players can also add Extra for an additional $1 for a chance to win up to $250,000.
