Last-minute lottery entry turns one Sussex man into a millionaire

A National Lottery player from near Brighton has won £1 million after matching five main numbers and the bonus ball in the Lotto draw on June 17, 2026.

The man, who is in his 40s, purchased the winning entry online last minute.

He said: “Initially I just couldn’t believe I had won. My partner and I are so happy… this Lotto win is going to make such a difference to our lives.”

The winner plans to pay off his mortgage and treat his family to a holiday.

National Lottery tickets can be bought and checked online through the official app or website, as well as in retail stores.

Players who purchase tickets online are automatically notified by email if they win.

Retail tickets can also be scanned using the app to check for winnings.

Each £2 Lotto line now offers two chances to win as part of recent changes designed to increase the number of millionaires across the UK.

The updated format is expected to raise the annual total of new millionaires from around 140 to approximately 345.

The odds of winning any prize have also improved, rising from one in 9.3 to one in 4.9.

Ms Garrett said these changes are helping to deliver life-changing moments while also supporting good causes across the country.

Since its launch, the National Lottery has raised more than £53 billion for good causes, supporting projects in every UK postcode area.
