Community lottery boosts South Oxfordshire good causes

A community lottery scheme is delivering fresh financial support to good causes.

SO Charitable Lottery, run by South Oxfordshire District Council, has raised more than £52,000 since its launch in 2018 to support 82 charities and community groups.

This year, £8,210 from its community fund will be awarded to eight organisations in the district.

Georgina Heritage, cabinet member for communities at South Oxfordshire District Council, said: “We know many local groups are feeling the pressure financially, and funding like this can make a real difference in helping them carry on supporting those who need it most.

“It’s always great to see first-hand the impact these organisations have in our communities, and this fund is one way we can support that work.

“We’d love to see more organisations get involved in the lottery.

“The more people who take part, the greater the benefit we can bring to communities across South Oxfordshire.”

Among the beneficiaries is the Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary, which will receive just over £1,557.

Iain Atkin, manager at Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary, said: “These unrestricted funds will go towards our essential animal care costs and, given the vast increase in the number of kittens currently in our care, the funding will most likely help cover vital veterinary treatment and associated care for them.

“The support from the lottery and the local community is invaluable to us, helping ensure that we can continue providing safe shelter, medical care and rehabilitation for vulnerable animals in need across the district.”
