Kentucky Powerball winner’s assault case waived to grand jury

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WKYT) – A Kentucky Powerball winner’s assault case was waived to the grand jury on Thursday in Scott County.

Fifty-one-year-old James Farthing is charged with first-degree strangulation and fourth-degree assault.

Farthing did appear for the preliminary hearing but did not speak and left immediately after it concluded.

The charges stem from a July incident where Farthing allegedly strangled a woman after an argument.

This is not the first time that Farthing has run afoul of the law.

He pled guility to an assault incident involving a Florida police officer in 2025, had burglary charges against him dropped earlier this year and has an ongoing case in Fayette County for leaving the scene of an accident.
