Eastern WA Powerball player wins big as $1 billion jackpot is claimed

A Powerball player missed the jackpot in Eastern Washington but still won big, according to lottery officials.

The Powerball player matched four white balls and the red Powerball in the drawing on Wednesday, Aug. 12, according to Washington’s Lottery and the national Powerball website.

The lucky gambler scored $50,000, a Washington’s Lottery spokesperson said.

Two lottery players in Western Washington also took home large prizes ranging from $50,000 to $100,000.

Where was winning Powerball ticket sold in Washington?

The winning Powerball ticket was purchased at a Circle K convenience store at 9208 West Highway 2 in Spokane.

It takes about two hours to drive from Kennewick to Spokane.

What were winning Powerball numbers?

The winning numbers in Wednesday’s Powerball drawing were 4, 26, 66, 67 and 69 with a red Powerball of 9.

A ticket sold in Illinois claimed a $1.04 billion jackpot in Wednesday’s drawing, with a cash value of $450.5 million.

How big is the Powerball jackpot?

As of Thursday, Aug. 13, the Powerball jackpot was at $20 million with a cash option of $8.7 million, according to the Washington’s Lottery website.

When is the next Powerball drawing?

Powerball drawings are held at 7:59 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, with Double Play drawings at 8:30 p.m. on those nights.

Ticket sales are cut off at 6:45 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, and resume at 6:46 p.m.

The next Powerball drawing is on Saturday, Aug. 15, at 7:59 p.m.

What to know about Powerball lottery game

Powerball tickets are sold in 45 U.S. states and Washington, D.C., as well as Puerto Rico and The Virgin Islands.

Each play costs $2, with the option of adding a $1 Power Play to multiply non-jackpot prizes or a $1 Double Play to enter a second drawing.

Players may choose their own numbers or have them randomly selected.

“The jackpot is won by matching all five white balls in any order and the red Powerball,” the national Powerball website said, noting that “the Powerball jackpot grows until it is won.”

The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are one in 292,201,338, according to the Washington’s Lottery website.
