Illinois lottery winners claim $5M Mega Millions prize and $500K jackpot

One Illinois lottery player is $5 million richer after Tuesday night’s Mega Millions drawing, while another player recently scored a $500,001 Lucky Day Lotto jackpot.

While a Florida ticket claimed the estimated $800 million Mega Millions jackpot, Illinois was one of only two states to produce a second-tier winner. The other ticket, sold in New York, won $3 million with a 3X multiplier. The drawing also produced 15 third-tier prizes ranging from $20,000 to $50,000.

Players can check their tickets at MegaMillions.com. Winners in Illinois have one year from the drawing date to claim their prize.

The winning Lucky Day Lotto ticket was purchased online and matched all five numbers — 18, 22, 28, 29 and 32 — to win the game’s $500,000 jackpot, plus an additional $1 for matching two numbers on another play.

According to the Illinois Lottery, nearly 7 million winning Lucky Day Lotto tickets have been sold this year, with players statewide claiming more than $40 million in prizes.

Players can check winning numbers through the Illinois Lottery app or at IllinoisLottery.com. The Lucky Day Lotto winner has one year from the drawing date to claim the prize. Because the winning ticket was purchased online, the prize must be claimed through an Illinois Lottery Claim Center, by mail or through the lottery’s e-Claim process.
