Powerball results for 08/12/26: $1 billion jackpot won, 5 other players win at least $1 million

The eighth largest Powerball prize of all time was won Wednesday night by a player in Illinois. The winner matched all five white balls and the Powerball to win the $1.040 billion jackpot in the Aug. 12 drawing.
Wednesday night’s drawing was the 44th since the last time the jackpot had been won. The drawing on Saturday, Aug. 15 will be worth $20 million with a cash option of $8.7 million.

Powerball winners for Aug. 12:

The jackpot-winning ticket was sold at the Hy-Vee Gas convenience store located at 310 N. 36th St. in Quincy, Illinois.

Along with the grand prize winner, five players matched all five white balls to win a $1 million prize. Those tickets were sold in Arizona, California, Florida, Massachusetts and North Carolina.

The player in Massachusetts also played the Power Play option, which increased their winnings to $2 million.

Eighty-six players matched four white balls and the Powerball to win $50,000 prizes. Of those, 16 players also played the Power Play, which increased their winnings to $100,000.

A total of 3,251,899 winning tickets were sold, with players winning a combined $28,514,231 in non-jackpot prizes.

Powerball drawings take place every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday night at 10:59 p.m. ET. Tickets cost $2 each.
Powerball is offered in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and the U.K. Players select five white numbers from 1 to 69 and one red ball from 1 to 26. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292 million.
