Man discovers he’s sitting on a R100 million Lotto ticket | The Witness

Ithuba has confirmed that the winner of the R100 million Lotto jackpot from the draw on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, has officially claimed his prize.

The winning ticket, a quick pick selection purchased at Checkers Hyper in Sandton City, secured a jackpot of R100 644 721.10, making it the third-highest Lotto jackpot win of 2026.

The winner, an entrepreneur in the mining sector, said he had been consistently playing PowerBall every Tuesday and Friday for the past two years after narrowly missing a jackpot shortly after he began playing.

Within four months of playing regularly, I won in the second division of PowerBall and missed the jackpot by just one number.

“When I saw where the winning ticket was bought, I instantly had a feeling that I could be sitting on a multi-million-rand ticket and immediately checked my numbers,” he said.

Asked about his immediate plans after becoming a multi-millionaire, the winner joked that he would first “buy my family takeaway burgers”.

While the jackpot will significantly improve his family’s future, he said he also intends to use part of the money to assist others.
