Newbridge Community Centre To Benefit From Lottery Funding

A historic community centre in Newbridge has been preserved for future generations after securing almost £17,000 in National Lottery funding.

The funding has enabled the Newbridge Community Association to replace the roof of the village’s community centre, helping protect the long-standing building which is used by residents, local groups and organisations across West Wight.

Originally built as the village school, the building later became the Newbridge Working Men’s Club before evolving into the present-day community centre, managed by the association and its trustees.

Today, the venue hosts a wide range of activities including quizzes, bingo, coffee mornings, dance classes and music groups, as well as billiards, snooker and darts. The centre is also used for community meetings, polling station duties and private hire events.

Chairman Trevor Whillier said: “We’re delighted that The National Lottery has recognised our work in this way.

“This funding will help this valuable village facility remain in a good state of repair in support of community activities for many years to come.”

Trustee Helena Hewston added that community centres play an important role in supporting health and wellbeing, saying the building continues to offer valuable facilities for local residents.
