Bunnlevel Man Claims $1 Million Scratch-Off Prize, Takes Home $432K After Taxes
Raymond Johnson won big. According to a press release, the Bunnlevel resident scratched off a $1 million ticket while relaxing on his front porch on Sunday, Aug. 9. Johnson chose the lump-sum option of $600,000, which came to $432,063 once tax withholdings were deducted.
He claimed his winnings on Monday, Aug. 10, at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. Johnson could have taken $50,000 yearly for two decades, but he picked the single payment instead.
“It just so happens that yesterday was my lucky day,” he said in the release.
Johnson purchased his $10 Triple Red 777 Jackpot ticket from Super Save on N.C. 27 West in Lillington. He trusted his gut when selecting which ticket to buy.
“I just go with my first instinct and it was to get that one,” he recalled.
The win arrived at a perfect moment. His family had been house hunting the day before he scored the prize.
“Last Saturday we were looking at a house,” he said.
Johnson will buy a house and a car with his winnings.
The Triple Red 777 Jackpot game debuted in July. It started with three $1 million top prizes, and one remains unclaimed.
Lottery proceeds helped Harnett County too—the county got a $10 million state grant to construct a new school.
