State Department Adds $1 Entry Fee for Diversity Visa Applicants

Would-be immigrants will be required to pay a new $1 registration fee to enter the annual lottery for diversity visas, the State Department announced.
The new fee will take effect beginning Tuesday when a final rule is published in the Federal Register.
The $1 fee reflects operational costs of running the lottery, including updates of the system collecting submissions, data storage and security reviews, the State Department said. The existing $330 application fee for lottery winners covers other costs of the program, it said.
