Winning $500,000 lotto ticket sold at Colorado grocery store, Powerball jackpot nears $1 billion

Someone who bought a Powerball ticket at a Front Range grocery store this week has many, many reasons to celebrate – 500,000 reasons before tax, to be exact.

A King Soopers in Castle Pines sold the winning $500,000 Powerball Double Play ticket, Colorado Lottery officials said Tuesday. The lucky numbers 4, 23, 31, 32, 57 and Powerball 23 were drawn Monday.

Double Play is a separate drawing from the main Powerball drawing. For an extra $1, players have another chance at matching their numbers in a second drawing, according to the state.

Players can win up to $10 million on Double Play, and the odds of winning the $500,000 prize for matching 5 numbers is roughly 1 in 11.7 million.

The overall Powerball jackpot is now nearly $1 billion and will be the eighth-largest prize in Powerball history. The odds of winning are 1 in 292 million. The largest Powerball jackpot was $2 billion in 2022.

Lotto proceeds in Colorado fund programs for parks, wildlife and school construction.
