Uni student becomes instant millionaire
An Aussie university student has become an instant millionaire, becoming Australia’s first division one winner of a new lottery.
The New South Wales man in his 20s won $1 million after purchasing a $12.35 ticket to The Lottery Office’s new FutureBall, taking home the top prize in what was only the lottery’s sixth draw last Friday.
When he was told about the win, the data science student could barely believe his luck.
“Oh my god, really? Oh my goodness! Am I the only one to win that prize?” he said when contacted by The Lottery Office.
The man went on to say he had always hoped to give his family “a more secure and comfortable life”.
“This win makes that feeling possible in a way it didn’t before,” he said. “I think this win will give my family and me much more peace of mind.”
As well as supporting his family and alleviating some financial stress, the winner said he would now be able to pay for his education and “plan carefully for the future”, but not before celebrating with a shopping trip.
“Maybe buy some clothes and shoes – I’m excited to go shopping tomorrow,” he said when asked how he planned to celebrate.
The life-changing draw marked the first division one win in the new lottery, which is the first new standard draw-based lottery launched in Australia in more than a decade.
The FutureBall’s point of difference is that no two entries can share the same number combination, meaning the prize is never split and any winner walks away with the full $1 million prize.
The Lottery Office chief executive Jaclyn Wood described it as Australia’s most winnable million-dollar lottery.
“FutureBall was created to rethink the traditional lottery experience and give Australians better first division odds at a genuinely life-changing prize,” Ms Wood said.
