Among them, the R100 million Lotto jackpot still remains unclaimed.

ITHUBA has confirmed that the person who won an eye-watering R100 million in the Lotto has still not claimed their jackpot winnings.

The winning ticket was purchased at Checkers Hyper in Sandton City, Johannesburg.

According to The South African, South African Lotto winners have 365 days from the date they bought their ticket to claim their prize.

If you’ve won more than R50,000, you’ll need to visit one of ITHUBA’s regional offices to process the claim.

Once everything has been verified, the cash is deposited directly into your bank account, tax-free, within 72 hours.

Ithuba spokesperson Michelle van Trotsenburg has encouraged the public to keep their tickets safe and check their numbers, particularly after a draw.

If the 365-day window closes, the ticket officially expires.

The unclaimed money is then moved to the National Lottery Distribution Fund.

From there, the National Lotteries Commission ensures that the money is used for various charitable projects.

ITHUBA usually waits six months after a draw before making a public noise about unclaimed prizes, followed by a final reminder 30 days before the ticket reaches its expiry date.

Other unclaimed Lotto winnings

Several other big prizes are still unclaimed:

  • Westville, KZN: An R8.5 million jackpot winner has until 20 September 2026 to claim their prize.
  • Pretoria: A Daily Lotto player is sitting on R550,000 until 19 July 2026.
  • East London: A Daily Lotto win of R55,012 must be claimed by 2 October 2026.

What if you have lost your ticket?

If your ticket is lost or stolen, ITHUBA says you must report it immediately.

They work alongside law enforcement to investigate these cases and will still honour valid claims within that one-year period.

If your ticket is just a bit battered or damaged, it will have to go through a verification process. However, be warned: any tickets found to have been tampered with or to be fraudulent will be declared void.

For those who prefer the digital route and play via a banking app, keep your phone nearby, as your bank will send you a call to confirm your win.
