Shallotte man wins $200,000 top prize from scratch-off ticket – WWAYTV3

SHALLOTTE, NC (WWAY) — A Brunswick County man is celebrating after winning a $200,000 top prize on a North Carolina Education Lottery scratch-off ticket.

According to the North Carolina Education Lottery, Belton Leonard of Shallotte purchased a $5 Double Your Money ticket from Minuteman Food Mart on Holden Beach Road Southwest in Shallotte.

The lottery said Leonard claimed his prize Friday at lottery headquarters. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he received $144,021.

Leonard told lottery officials he plans to use the winnings for home renovations and to purchase a new vehicle.

The North Carolina Education Lottery said Double Your Money launched in August 2025 with five top prizes of $200,000. Leonard’s win claimed the final top prize, and the lottery will now begin the process of ending the game.

According to the lottery, education programs in Brunswick County received $6.3 million in lottery funding last year.
