Powerball jackpot reaches eighth-largest in game history at $856 million. Here’s what players need to know

The Powerball jackpot has grown to an estimated $856 million, making it the eighth-largest jackpot in Powerball history after no ticket matched all six numbers in Wednesday night’s drawing, according to Powerball.

According to Powerball, the estimated cash value for Saturday’s drawing is about $372 million.

The growing jackpot comes days after a $1 million Powerball ticket was sold in Allen, where one player matched all five white balls but missed the Powerball, according to the Texas Lottery.

The winning numbers drawn Wednesday were 14, 20, 59, 60, 61, with Powerball 25 and a 2X Power Play, according to Powerball.

The next drawing is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 8. Powerball tickets cost $2 per play, with the option to add Power Play for an additional $1 to multiply most non-jackpot prizes.

Powerball is a multistate lottery game played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Tickets are sold in Texas through the Texas Lottery. 

Players choose five numbers from 1 to 69 and one Powerball number from 1 to 26. The odds of winning the jackpot are about 1 in 292.2 million, while the odds of winning any prize are about 1 in 24.9, according to Powerball.

Jackpot winners can choose between the advertised annuity, paid over 30 years, or the one-time cash option, both before taxes. Lottery winnings are subject to federal taxes. Texas does not impose a state tax on lottery winnings, according to Turbotax.
