No Powerball jackpot winner; prize climbs to estimated $856 Million

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — No ticket matched all six numbers in Wednesday night’s Powerball drawing, sending the jackpot soaring to an estimated $856 million for the next drawing.

The winning numbers drawn Wednesday, Aug. 5, were 14, 20, 59, 60 and 61, with Powerball 25. The Power Play multiplier was 2X.

Although no one claimed the grand prize, one ticket sold in Ohio matched all five white balls to win $1 million. There were no $2 million Match 5 Power Play winners.

The next Powerball drawing will be held Saturday, Aug. 8, at 10:59 p.m. Eastern time. The estimated $856 million jackpot carries a cash value of $372 million before taxes. Jackpot winners may choose the full prize through an annuity paid in 30 graduated payments over 29 years or take the one-time cash option. You can watch the live drawing on CBS12 News on Saturday.

Jackpot approaches Powerball’s all-time Top 10

At $856 million, Saturday’s estimated prize would rank among the largest jackpots in Powerball history if it is won at its current advertised value.

The biggest Powerball jackpot remains the $2.04 billion prize won by a ticket sold in California for the Nov. 7, 2022, drawing. Other record-setting jackpots include:

• $1.817 billion — Arkansas, Dec. 24, 2025
• $1.787 billion — split by tickets in Missouri and Texas, Sept. 6, 2025
• $1.765 billion — California, Oct. 11, 2023
• $1.586 billion — split by tickets in California, Florida and Tennessee, Jan. 13, 2016
• $1.326 billion — Oregon, April 6, 2024

Powerball’s current top-10 list also includes an $842.4 million jackpot won in Michigan on Jan. 1, 2024.

Florida player recently hit $800 million Mega Millions jackpot

The growing Powerball prize comes shortly after a lottery player in Florida won an estimated $800 million Mega Millions jackpot.

A single ticket sold at a Wawa on State Road 70 East in Bradenton matched all six numbers in the July 28 drawing. The winning numbers were 34, 48, 49, 59 and 70, with Mega Ball 12.

The winner may receive the estimated $800 million prize through an annuity over 30 years or select a one-time cash payment of approximately $344.2 million before taxes.

The win was the third Mega Millions jackpot claimed in 2026 and the 10th-largest jackpot in the game’s history. It was also Florida’s sixth Mega Millions jackpot win or share since the state joined the game in 2013. Florida previously produced the game’s record $1.602 billion jackpot winner in August 2023.

Now, attention shifts back to Powerball as players await Saturday night’s drawing and a chance at one of the game’s largest prizes ever.

Powerball tickets cost $2 per play in most participating jurisdictions. Players must match five white balls and the red Powerball to win the jackpot. Lottery officials encourage players to play responsibly and remember that the odds of winning the jackpot are extremely long.
