NHS worker wins £10,000 a month in National Lottery draw

The NHS worker from Bury St Edmunds, a man in his 60s, landed the prize in the draw on Thursday, 9 July 2026, after playing with the same saved numbers he’s used since he first entered the game.

He plans to use the £120,000 prize to help his daughter with a deposit for her first home and treat his wife to a Mediterranean cruise to celebrate her 60th birthday.

The winner said: “It’s fantastic, but I’m still a little bewildered that I’ve actually won.

“It’s all very surreal, but that will probably change once I see the money in the bank.”

Liz Styles, winners’ advisor at Allwyn, operator of the National Lottery, congratulated him on his success.

Ms Styles said: “Congratulations to our winner. Persistence pays, and this time using the same numbers over again has seen you win an incredible £10,000 a month for a year.

“We hope you enjoy a wonderful cruise with your wife.”

National Lottery players can buy and check tickets online via the National Lottery app or website, or in retail stores.

Tickets purchased online are checked automatically, and winners are notified by email.

Every ticket played helps support good causes across the UK, with around £33 million raised each week for National Lottery-funded projects.

Since the lottery began, more than £53 billion has been raised for good causes, funding arts, sports, community groups, and the preservation of British landmarks.

Players can also scan retail tickets using the app to see if they’ve won.
