Motorists face a postcode lottery when it comes to speeding fines, new data shows
Drivers are more likely to be caught speeding in a specific part of the West Midlands, latest data has revealed.
It’s an uneven playing field when it comes to speeding enforcement across the region, with motorists facing a postcode lottery.
It means some drivers are more likely to get away with speeding based on where they are in the West Midlands.

This is because some police forces are hotter on speeding enforcement than others, and may have more speed cameras operating on their roads.
Warwickshire is the region’s speeding fines hotspot. More tickets were issued in the county than in neighbouring West Midlands, despite having a much smaller population.
A whopping 177,373 speeding offences were recorded in Warwickshire between 2024 and 2025, data obtained by road safety technology firm Ooono showed.
This put the county force third in the whole country, ahead of much-larger West Midlands on 147,070.
This indicates speeding drivers are getting away with it on a daily basis in Birmingham and the Black Country.

Police and council chiefs are seeking to address this, rolling out new speed cameras in Birmingham and cutting speed limits on main roads around the city.
Nationally, speeding tickets are on the rise, reaching a four-year high.
Some 22 of the 24 police forces that responded stated that they had seen an increase in speeding in their area when comparing 2024 to 2025.
Mike Skyte, spokesperson for Ooono, said: “Speeding enforcement is clearly on the rise, and many drivers may not realise just how costly certain roads have become.
“Our data shows that it’s not just motorways – everyday routes across towns and cities are becoming high-risk for fines.
“In London especially, the rapid expansion of 20mph zones is playing a major role in the increase. Many drivers simply haven’t adjusted yet.”
