What is Mega Millions?
Mega Millions is a lottery played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Tickets cost $5, and players choose six numbers — five white balls (1 to 70) and one gold Mega Ball (1 to 24) — or opt for a Quick Pick. To win the jackpot, all six numbers must match. If multiple tickets win, the prize is split.
How to play the Mega Millions
Tickets can be purchased at convenience stores, gas stations, grocery stores and, in some states, online.
Players select five white-ball numbers (1 to 70) and one Mega Ball (1 to 24), or use a Quick Pick/Easy Pick for randomly generated numbers.
Non-jackpot prizes include a built-in multiplier that can boost winnings by 2x to 10x.
