A historic lottery win out of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, is making headlines after the Halifax County winner struck it rich with one $2 ticket.
According to lottery win records, the jackpot represents the third-largest in North Carolina history. The ticket was purchased Jan. 21 and the prize money was claimed only one day afterwards on Jan. 22. However, the winner chose to remain anonymous following the claim ? N.C. law allows winners of Powerball prizes worth $50 million or more to stay anonymous for up to 90 days after claiming said prize.

Richard Kee Jr., a resident of Roanoke Rapids in Halifax County, won a $209.3 million jackpot playing Powerball, according to a news release from the North Carolina Education Lottery. His winning ticket was purchased on Jan. 21.
Where was the winning NC Powerball ticket sold?
The lucky ticket was purchased at West 10th Mart, located on West 10th Street in Roanoke Rapids. The retailer received a $50,000 bonus for selling the jackpot-winning ticket, a standard incentive for stores that sell major lottery winners.

According to Powerball records from PortalSeven.com, the $209.3 million prize is the third-largest in N.C. history. The only recorded wins of larger prizes in the Tar Heel State include a $564 million prize for a ticket drawn Feb. 11, 2015, in Shallotte, and a $344.6 million prize for a ticket drawn June 1, 2019, in Hope Mills.
