Major lotto shake-up as Aussie winners won’t have to split prizes from today

A new lottery promising to be the ‘most winnable’ million-dollar game in Australia is launching tonight, with games starting at just 95 cents.

FutureBall is The Lottery Office’s first new product offering in seven years and operates a little differently to most games, particularly as winners will “never have to split a prize”.

So how do you play? Let’s find out.

How do you play FutureBall?

Players need to select 6 numbers from Pool A, and one number from Pool B. You can either pick your own, or have the numbers randomly generated for you.

Pool A consists of numbers 1 to 34, while Pool B only has numbers 1 to 3. The Pool B number is the ‘FutureBall’.

To win division one, all seven digits need to match the winning numbers.

How much are FutureBall tickets?

Games start at 95 cents each, but there is a minimum purchase of five entries per transaction.

Players can buy more than five entries, but it comes down to the number combination availability.

How is different from other games?

Every week, there are two draws, operating every Tuesday and Friday night.

Entries close at 7.30pm AEST on game nights, and the winning numbers are drawn at 8.30pm.

The draw is entirely online, with a set $1 million jackpot up for grabs in every game. Tickets cannot be purchased in stores.

With fewer numbers to choose from compared to other draws, Aussies are given more chances to win.

The Lottery Office claims players are 33 times more likely to win FutureBall’s division 1 prize than Powerball’s division 1 prize.

The odds of winning FutureBall are 1 in 4,034,712, while Saturday Gold Lotto is 1 in 8,145,060 and Powerball is 1 in 134,490,400.

However, the prize pools in the Saturday Gold Lotto and Powerball can be significantly larger than the $1 million prize from FutureBall.

But that doesn’t mean multiple winners. Every ticket is unique, with players unable to purchase the same number combination as someone else.

This means the $1 million first prize can never be shared.

“When you win FutureBall, you never have to share the spotlight… or your $1M prize,” The Lottery Office Chief Executive Officer Jaclyn Wood said.

“It’s a wonderful thing knowing the full sum belongs to a single player. One million dollars. One lucky winner. FutureBall makes sure that when someone wins that Division 1 draw, the win makes a true difference.”
