The start of a new month brings another chance for players to try their luck, with £2 million up for grabs in the first Lotto draw of April. The winning numbers were revealed at 8pm on Wednesday, April 1, as hopeful players across the country checked their tickets to see if their fortunes had changed.

The life-changing Lotto numbers drawn this week were 7, 16, 23, 27, 35 and 40, with the Bonus Ball 48 completing the set. Shortly after, the Thunderball draw followed, offering another chance at a big win with a top prize of £500,000.

The Thunderball numbers came in as 2, 7, 20, 23 and 28, with the Thunderball itself landing on 7, securing a jackpot of £500,000.

While many players will be dreaming of what they would do with such sums, for some, those dreams have already become reality.

A group of retired Tata Steel workers from Port Talbot struck gold, landing a £1 million prize through their long-running syndicate. The group of 15 former office colleagues had stayed connected through weekly lottery entries, each contributing £5 in hopes of hitting the big time.

The syndicate was formed seven years ago as a light-hearted way to lift spirits after gruelling 14-hour shifts at the Port Talbot factory. Their persistence finally paid off when they entered the EuroMillions draw using the National Lottery app and matched the coveted Millionaire Maker code.

Among the winners are locals Gill Furlong, Christine Davies, Sally Wise, Julie Lambert, Allan Evans, Ian Howells and Raja Prasad.

Syndicate leader Paul Davy, 61, who kept the group going over the years, described the surreal moment they discovered their win.

“I couldn’t believe it – a message just popped up on the app,” he said. “I was checking Saturday’s draw when a message flashed up. I thought it must be an error, but then I saw the winning Millionaire Maker code.”

The £1 million prize will be shared among the syndicate members, with plans already in motion for how to spend their newfound wealth, from paying off mortgages and upgrading kitchens to buying new cars, supporting loved ones, and, in Mr Davy’s case, finally setting sail on a dream cruise.

With the next draw scheduled for Friday, April 3 – could you be next?
