Lottery player wins 128 mitha PowerBall jackpot! | Daily Sun

A KZN player wins R128 million in PowerBall just days after Sizekhaya Holdings takes over South Africa’s National Lottery.

SIZEKHAYA Holdings recently took over the operation of South Africa’s National Lottery.

Just three days into its management, the company reports a strong response from players nationwide.

This enthusiasm is highlighted by the creation of the first PowerBall multi-millionaire under Sizekhaya Holdings’ stewardship.

On Tuesday, 2 June, a lucky player from KZN scooped an estimated R128 million PowerBall jackpot after purchasing the winning ticket at a retail outlet in the province.

The milestone comes as Sizekhaya settles into its role as the country’s fourth National Lottery operator, having officially assumed responsibility on 1 June.

Sizekhaya chief operating officer Fundi Sithebe described the first few days as a significant success, citing strong participation levels and positive feedback from players, retailers and business partners.

“To create a new multi-millionaire in our first week of operating the National Lottery is a wonderful milestone. We are delighted for the winner and wish them every success as they begin what will undoubtedly be a remarkable new chapter in their life,” said Sithebe.

While the transition from the previous operator has largely been smooth, some players experienced difficulties purchasing tickets through certain banking and digital platforms during the initial rollout.

According to Sizekhaya, the issues were identified quickly and are being resolved in collaboration with banking institutions and retail partners.

“The vast majority of lottery transactions have been processed successfully, and we continue to see steady improvement across all channels,” Sithebe said.

Since taking over operations, Sizekhaya has activated more than 5 500 lottery terminals nationwide, trained over 10 000 retail staff members and expanded access to lottery services through new retail and banking partnerships.

The company has also introduced a refreshed National Lottery offering featuring larger jackpots and improved odds for players.

Another major development has been the return of live National Lottery draws to television, with Tuesday night’s PowerBall draw broadcast live on e.tv.

Sithebe said the positive response in the first few days has strengthened the company’s confidence in the National Lottery’s future.

“Our first few days have delivered tremendous encouragement. We’ve seen strong participation, celebrated a life-changing jackpot winner, and successfully launched our national operations.

“We remain confident, focused and excited about the future. This is only the beginning of an eight-year journey, and we’re committed to building a National Lottery that all South Africans can be proud of,” added Sithebe.
