Leland woman wins $100,000 on scratch-off ticket

LELAND, N.C. (WECT) – A woman from Leland tried her luck on a $30 scratch-off ticket and won a $100,000 top prize.

North Carolina lottery officials said You Zhu bought the winning $100,000 Cash Payday ticket from the Walmart on New Pointe Boulevard in Leland. She arrived at lottery headquarters Monday to claim her prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $72,018.

Officials said the $100,000 Cash Payday game debuted in March with 80 top prizes of $100,000. Sixty-eight $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
