Legal local wins life-changing $5 million from Lotto 6/49

A lottery ticket sold just north of Edmonton has made one lucky resident Alberta’s newest millionaire.

Legal resident Shannon Keast couldn’t believe her ears when, on May 27, she was told she had just won $5 million from Lotto 6/49. With the lucky numbers of 5, 27, 35, 38, 44 and 46, a celebratory sound was played from the kiosk reader, signaling that her life was now on a completely different trajectory.

“When I scanned it in store, I didn’t realize I had won it right away, I just heard the sound,” she recalled. “I was trying to FaceTime my husband and I was shaking and crying!” Her life had now changed forever.

That excitement spread throughout the Keast family immediately, as she joined the litany of lottery-winners in the greater Edmonton area. She and her husband still can’t believe it.

“We are both just so excited,” she said. Now that the money had been claimed, it was time to plan how to use it.

The Keast family detailed exactly how they would be spending their newfound riches. Before the spending, their first order of business will be setting up a stable financial future. After that step, Keast said they’ll look into some leisure property.

“We have a few plans,” she said. “We’re setting up trust accounts for family and looking at buying a cabin in Saskatchewan.”

Alongside all this, Shannon and her husband are planning a comfortable trip in order to go to a tropical celebration.

“We’re also going to be taking a trip to Costa Rica for a wedding,” she said.

Keast couldn’t contain how excited she was by the win. “It feels so surreal and overwhelming,” she said. “One of the best days of our lives!”

The winning Lotto 6/49 ticket was purchased at the Mobil gas station, which is located on 100 Street in Morinville.
