‘F— me’: Powerball winner’s wild reaction

The lucky winner of this evening’s $40m Powerball grand prize reacted to the news with a very familiar and very Aussie four-letter response.

The top prize went to a middle aged couple from Kenmore, Brisbane, who were over the moon when their numbers came up.

On being called and told the news, Australia’s newest multi-millionaire reacted as only an Aussie could.

“F**k no! What? You’re kidding me,” the winning man yelled when told the news.

The couple, who also won division two 19 times, walk away with a whopping $40,724,820.55 to their name.

“This is unreal. This can’t be real. I was just joking when the phone rang, ‘It could be the Lott’,” his wife added.

The pair have now vowed that their working days are over, retiring on the spot.

“I’ve dreamt of this, but never imagined this happening to us,” the man said.

“We’ll pay off the mortgage and set up the kids and family.

“As for work, we’re done. We were just saying the other day: ‘Isn’t there more to life than this?

“Now there is and we’re going to enjoy it to the full and make the most of it.”

The couple were the only ones to come up trumps in Thursday evening’s draw, after three consecutive weeks of the top prize going unclaimed.

The lucky winning numbers were, in numerical order, 7, 11, 12, 18, 27, 30 and 34. The Powerball was 16.

While there was only one winner in the top category, 20 people shared the division two prize of $38,148.45.

There were also 81 winners in the division three category, who will each claim $11,650.25.

It is the first time since June 25 that somebody has walked away with the jackpot, when $40m was claimed by a single unregistered Canberra man from Woden.
