EuroMillions player misses €160m jackpot by 1 number as appeal issued to players

A Cork player came within one number of winning the €160 million EuroMillions jackpot but still celebrated a life-changing €365,515 prize in Friday’s draw

Irish EuroMillions participants are being encouraged to check their tickets following Friday night’s draw, which saw one fortunate player secure a life-altering sum.

Friday evening’s EuroMillions draw delivered a heartbreaking near-miss for an Irish ticket holder, who fell just short of claiming the enormous €160,606,603 top prize. The Irish participant was one digit away from becoming the nation’s latest multimillionaire after matching all five main numbers and one Lucky Star in Friday’s main EuroMillions draw.

While the player narrowly missed out on securing the eye-watering €160m jackpot, there’s still cause for celebration as they claimed the 5 + 1 Star prize valued at an impressive €365,515.

The National Lottery has since verified that the winning ticket was bought on Wednesday (3 June) by an online player from Co Cork, reports the Irish Mirror. Lottery officials have confirmed that notification has been dispatched to the winner, advising them to log in and examine their National Lottery account.

The winning numbers in Friday’s 5 June draw were: 05, 06, 16, 17, 49 and Lucky Stars 02, 12.

The Cork ticket holder wasn’t the sole Irish EuroMillions player rejoicing over a substantial windfall, as a participant from Co Wicklow also struck it lucky in Friday night’s draw.

The Wicklow player matched five numbers in the main draw to claim €21,357. The winning Quick Pick ticket was bought on Thursday at Tesco, Wexford Road, Arklow, Co Wicklow. National Lottery spokesperson Sarah Orr had the following advice for players: “While over 69,000 players in Ireland won prizes across the EuroMillions and Plus games on Friday night, it was an online player in Cork and a Wicklow player who won the biggest prizes of the night.

“Both winners who have tickets worth €365,515 and €21,357 are advised to contact the Prize Claims team on 1800 666 222 or email claims@lottery.ie and arrangements will be made for them to visit the Winners Room in Lottery Headquarters to collect their prizes.”

With no one scooping the enormous €160,606,603 jackpot, Tuesday’s prize pot is expected to swell to an estimated €175 million.

Those harbouring hopes of becoming Ireland’s next EuroMillions millionaire are urged to get their tickets either in-store, via the app or at www.lottery.ie before the 7.30pm sales deadline on Tuesday evening.
