Check your ticket: Leander Powerball ticket wins $20M jackpot share
AUSTIN, TEXAS - SEPTEMBER 04: A person holds a Powerball lottery ticket they purchased at the Brew Market & Cafe on September 04, 2025 in Austin, Texas. The ticket was purchased at the QuikTrip at 10742 E. Crystal Falls Parkway for the May 2 drawing. It was a Quick Pick ticket and matched the five white balls — 25, 37, 42, 52 and 65 — as well as the red Powerball, 14.
The advertised jackpot was $20 million, but there were two jackpot-winning tickets: one in Texas and one in Florida. Because the Texas player chose the cash value option when buying the ticket, the Leander prize is worth about $4.5 million before taxes, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association.
The Leander QuikTrip could also receive a payout. Retailers that sell Powerball jackpot-winning tickets in Texas are eligible for bonuses of up to $250,000 through the Texas Lottery’s retailer bonus program.
“If you believe you have the jackpot-winning ticket, we recommend you sign it, keep it in a safe place, seek financial and legal advice, and then call the Texas Lottery to schedule an appointment to claim the prize,” Courtney Arbour, executive director of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which oversees the Texas Lottery, said in a statement.
Texas law allows some big lottery winners to keep their names private. A person who wins $1 million or more can ask the Texas Lottery not to release their name when they claim the prize, though the agency may still release general details, such as the winner’s city or county.
The winner has 180 days from the drawing date to claim the money. Lottery officials recommend that the ticket holder sign the ticket, keep it somewhere secure and seek financial and legal advice before contacting the Texas Lottery to schedule a claim appointment.
The win is the fourth Powerball jackpot claimed by a Texas Lottery player since the state joined the multistate game in 2010. Texas’ first Powerball jackpot winner came in 2013, when Paul McDowell, of Bells, claimed a $40 million prize. The most recent Texas Powerball jackpot win came in September 2025, when Seven Bridges Revocable Trust, of Fredericksburg, claimed a share of a $1.8 billion jackpot.
Texas has now had at least one Powerball or Mega Millions jackpot winner in each of the past four calendar years, according to the Texas Lottery.
Powerball drawings are held Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10:12 p.m. Central time. In Texas, ticket sales close at 9 p.m. on drawing nights.
