The Powerball jackpot climbed to an estimated $1.4 billion before the Wednesday, Sept. 3 drawing. With no big winners, the jackpot will be an estimated $1.7 billion at the next drawing.
The Sept. 6 jackpot is now the third-largest in the U.S. lottery history, according to a news release from the Multi-State Lottery Association. There was a $2.04 billion Powerball won in 2022 and a $1.765 Powerball won in 2023.
“The current streak is the game record for the most consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner,: according to the news release.
To win the jackpot, a ticket must match all five numbers and the Powerball. Winners will have the option to choose a one-time cash payment of $634.3 million or an annuitized payment plan. The second option spreads the full $1.4 billion across an immediate check, followed by 29 annual payments that grow by 5% a year.

According to Powerball.com, the winning numbers are: 3-16-29-61-69 and the Powerball is 22. Power Play is 2x.
Did anyone win the Powerball jackpot?
According to the Multi-State Lottery Association, there were no jackpot winners in the Sept. 3 drawing, but there were 6.3 million tickets with cash winners.
There were $2 million winners in Michigan, Oregon, Texas and Wyoming. They matched all five balls and the Power Play.
There were also several $1 million winners who matched all five balls in:
- California (2)
- Colorado
- Florida
- Georgia (2)
- Illinois
- Maryland
- Minnesota
- Ohio
- Pennsylvania
According to the news release, 117 tickets won $50,000 prizes (Match 4 and the Powerball) and 36 tickets won $100,000 (Match 4, the Powerball and Power Play).
When is the next Powerball drawing?
The next drawing will be at 10 p.m. CT Saturday, Sept. 6.
Where can you buy lottery tickets?
Tickets can be purchased in person at gas stations, convenience stores and grocery stores. Some airport terminals may also sell lottery tickets.
