Everything we know as National Lottery announces major draw changes and £1 billion jackpot
- The National Lottery has announced it will be unveiling a new game later this summer as well as giving players more chances to win its jackpots.
- Operator Allwyn has announced it will be launching a groundbreaking UK version of Powerball this summer, which will offer people the chance to compete with players in the US for a mega jackpot of over £1 billion. This will be the first new game in the National Lottery’s history.
- Powerball tickets will cost £4 per line, and players will be in with the chance of winning a shared jackpot of over £1 billion. These winnings will then be paid out over the next 30 years.
- From June 7 the National Lottery will also offer players two chances to win for every £2 ticket. This change is expected to double the number of Lotto millionaires from around 140 to about 345 per year.
- Allwyn chief executive Andria Vidler said: “We are delivering on our promise to bring more games, more entertainment and more innovation to The National Lottery. With extensive upgrades to our digital and retail channels now complete, we have a fantastic summer lined up, as we are now able to bring these exciting new games to our players.”
- The new games will boost returns for good causes, with over 30% of Powerball ticket prices going to charity. This is expected to deliver around £1 billion extra over the first five years.
- The game changes also follow a £450 million major tech upgrade. This involved moving 18 million player records and more than three billion historical transactions from old platforms to new ones, and transforming the technology used by retail partners.
