‘He’s looking out for us” – Late husband’s Lotto numbers win grandmother £1m | ITV News

A grandmother said scooping £1 million on the lottery using numbers picked by her late husband felt like “a little sign from above”.

Rose Tresadern, 80, from near Southend-on-Sea in Essex, won the life-changing prize alongside her two children.

The family syndicate – who used the numbers chosen by Mrs Tresadern’s husband Derek before he died last year – matched five numbers and the bonus ball in the Lotto draw on 18 April, landing a £1m prize.

Mrs Tresedern said: “I don’t even know what all the numbers meant to Derek but, whatever they represent, they have turned out to be very lucky for us.

“It honestly feels like he’s still looking out for us. I know he’d be over the moon.”

The retired office manager had carried on playing the numbers with son Barry and daughter Julie because they reminded them of Derek, who died aged 83 shortly after the couple celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.

When the winning numbers came up, the pensioner said she was so shocked she could barely speak when she phoned her children.

“They thought something terrible had happened,” she laughed. “When I told them we’d won £1m there was just silence.”

Mrs Tresadern now plans to use some of the money to move into a retirement home better suited to her mobility needs, adding: “Now I’ll have comfort, independence and peace of mind. It’s such a relief.”

She said she also planned to use some of the money to repair her engagement ring and treat herself to a new one.
