Ada County woman scores six-figure Powerball prize. Meet the ‘big winner’

The Idaho Powerball player who recently scored a six-figure prize is an Ada County resident, according to lottery officials.

Maurna Latham of Boise matched four white balls and the red Powerball in the drawing on Wednesday, Aug. 12, according to the Idaho Lottery and the national Powerball website.

Latham’s winning ticket was worth $50,000, according to lottery officials.

However, she doubled her winnings with a PowerPlay multiplier, resulting in a payout of $100,000, according to lottery officials.

Latham realized she had a “big winner” at 2 a.m. following the Aug. 12 drawing, according to Idaho Lottery spokesperson David Workman

“That led to a sleepless night!” she told the Idaho Lottery.

Latham purchased her winning lottery ticket at Winner’s Corner gift store at 7447 Emerald St., Suite 130, in Boise, Workman told the Idaho Statesman in an email.

Latham plans to invest her lottery earnings, Workman said.

What were the winning Powerball numbers?

The winning numbers in Wednesday’s drawing were 3, 4, 19, 21 and 58 with a Powerball of 8, according to the Idaho Lottery.

A ticket sold in Illinois won the $1.04 billion jackpot, with a cash value of $450.5 million.

How to play Powerball lottery game

Powerball tickets are sold in 45 U.S. states and Washington, D.C., as well as Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Each play costs $2, with the option of adding a $1 Power Play to multiply non-jackpot prizes or a $1 Double Play to enter a second drawing.

Players may choose their own numbers or have them randomly selected.

“The jackpot is won by matching all five white balls in any order and the red Powerball,” the national Powerball website said, noting that “the Powerball jackpot grows until it is won.”

For an extra $1 per play, you can enter your numbers in a second drawing to win more prizes.

The Double Play drawing is held immediately after the regular Powerball drawings.

The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are one in about 292.2 million.

According to the Idaho Lottery website, if you are not an Idaho resident, then you will need to either mail in a claim or visit the Idaho Lottery headquarters to receive your check.
