Mass Lottery Hits $5.9B Revenue Despite Ticket Slump
Scratch ticket sales took a nosedive in the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2026, but the Massachusetts Lottery still earned billions of dollars for FY 2026.
Based on preliminary estimates, the Lottery hauled in roughly $5.904 billion, just shy of last year’s $5.94 billion, or 1.1 percent less.
State House News Service reported that it translates into an estimated profit of about $1.045 billion to be returned to communities via the Massachusetts Legislature, some $22 million less than last year.
Record Prize Payouts Offset Dip in Overall Revenue
While the state’s revenue was slightly lower, the state dished out record amounts in prize money in the Massachusetts Lottery’s 50-year history.
In a press release posted on the Massachusetts Lottery website, Lottery officials said, “With a record prize payout percentage of 74.19, Massachusetts Lottery players won an estimated $4.379 billion in prizes in FY 2026.”
“In FY 2026, Massachusetts Lottery players won 146 prizes valued at $1 million or more,” according to the release, including “136 scratch ticket prizes and 10 Powerball prizes.”

Scratch Tickets Fall as Keno Hits Historic High
Scratch ticket sales, which SHNS said “generally account for about two-thirds of all Lottery sales,” totaled an estimated $3.808 billion in FY 2026. SHNS stated that’s down $145.6 million or 3.7 percent from FY 2025.
Keno sales reached an all-time high of $1.228 billion, marking a steady increase of $2 million, or 0.2 percent, over fiscal year 2025.
Mass Lottery Online Rollout Targets Early Education Funding
On Monday, July 27, 2026, the Massachusetts Lottery launched Mass Lottery Online, “featuring a variety of both new and familiar games that registered players age 21 or older can play on the Mass Lottery app and website on a mobile device, computer or tablet.”
The Lottery says, “Profits generated from online sales will be returned to the Commonwealth to fund a grant program to support early childhood education and care.”
