He skipped the Knicks parade to claim a $3.4 million prize

A New York native skipped the Knicks parade Thursday to celebrate another big win in Connecticut: collecting his $3.4 million lottery jackpot.

Bernard Bonaparte, from Queens, N.Y., won the June 12, CT Lottery Lotto! drawing after purchasing the winning ticket on Putnam Avenue. He was inspired to try his luck after the historic win of his beloved basketball team, according to a press release from CT Lottery.

Bonaparte headed to CT Lottery Headquarters in Wallingford on Thursday to collect his prize.

“It was the Knicks! The Knicks won,” Bernard said in an interview, “That’s what’s important right now…it feels good.”

The New Yorker said he was strategic about purchasing his winning ticket from Gulf Station on Putnam Avenue in Old Greenwhich, according to the press release, which sold a winning $25,000 scratcher just a few weeks ago.

Bernard shared in an interview with CT Lottery that he plans to buy a house in a warmer climate.

“I love New York, and I love the Connecticut Lottery!” he said.
