WA couple ‘saving the planet’ after winning lotto jackpot
A couple from Australind is looking forward to retirement and ‘saving the world’ after winning a $1.2 million lotto prize.
The husband and wife, both in their mid-60s, say the life changing lump sum will help pay off their mortgage, boost their superannuation and support causes ‘closest to their hearts’.
Speaking about their win, the husband, who had planned to keep working for at least the next five years, said he will now retire while his partner revealed that helping others remained a priority for them.
“I support 19 environmental and animal charities. Now I can finally do more to help save the planet,” she said.
Alongside helping good causes, the couple also joked about splurging on some luxury items for their 19-year-old cat.
“We offered her a diamond necklace,” the husband joked.
He continued: “She didn’t react, so we assumed she wasn’t interested”.
The duo had often dreamt of celebrating a jackpot lotto win, having won a few smaller prizes in years gone by.
“We hadn’t won Division Six for a while and I said to my husband, ‘I wonder if a bigger win is coming’,” the wife said.
She was proved right when she returned to NewsXpress Treendale in Australind to check her $11.40 Saturday Lotto Slikpik 12 and discovered it was worth $1.2 million.
This weekend, WA players dreaming of their own retirement will have the chance to share in a $6 million Saturday Lotto prize.
