£1 million lottery win for ‘shell-shocked’ Cambridgeshire couple

They scooped the prize after matching their UK Millionaire Maker code in the EuroMillions draw on Tuesday April 21, 2026.

The married couple from Peterborough, who always buy EuroMillions Lucky Dip tickets, are now planning to use their winnings to extend their home.

In a joint statement, they said: “We logged into our online account and really couldn’t believe it.

“We felt shell-shocked – the most we have ever won before that was about £10.”

Kathy Garrett, senior winners’ advisor at Allwyn, operator of The National Lottery, congratulated the couple.

She said: “Congratulations to our lucky couple.

“It just goes to show that perseverance pays, and that you’ve got to be in it to win it.”

For every EuroMillions line played, UK players automatically receive a EuroMillions Millionaire Maker code printed on their ticket, creating a millionaire in every draw.

Tickets can be purchased and checked online via the National Lottery app or website.

Winners are notified directly if they have played online, and retail tickets can also be scanned using the app to check results.

Beyond the chance to win life-changing sums, playing the National Lottery helps support good causes across the UK.

On average, National Lottery players raise around £33 million every week for projects across the UK.

With over £53 billion raised for Good Causes since launch, this funds hundreds of projects in every postcode area across the UK.

From supporting the arts and sport sectors, to empowering local community groups and preserving iconic British landmarks, players’ participation makes a difference every single day.

Changes to the Lotto are also on the way this month.

Every £2 Lotto line will give players two chances to win, all for the same price and with the same number of balls to choose from.

The changes are expected to create hundreds more millionaires each year, increasing from about 140 to roughly 345.

Overall chances of winning any prize will also improve, rising from one in 9.3 to one in 4.9.

The changes are designed to deliver more winners and raise even more money for good causes across the UK.
