$20M winning lottery jackpot ticket sold at Texas QuikTrip store — here’s where

For just the fourth time, a $20 million Powerball jackpot-winning ticket was sold right here in the Lone Star State.

The Texas Lottery announced the $20 million grand prize-winning ticket from the drawing on Saturday, May 2, had been sold in the city of Leander, a suburb northwest of Austin. That top-honor Quick Pick ticket — which matched both the six numbers drawn as well as the Powerball — had been purchased at a QuikTrip convenience store located at 10742 E. Crystal Falls Parkway, Leander, TX 78641. 

The Texas Lottery confirmed a jackpot-winning ticket had also been purchased in Florida, with the two winners poised to share the grand prize pot. The Texas player had selected the cash value option at the time of purchase, with the winning ticket expected to be worth about $4.5 million pre-taxes, the release added. A winner has not yet come forward to claim the prize, the Texas Lottery confirmed in a media release.

Whoever purchased the jackpot ticket has 180 days from Saturday’s drawing to claim the prize before they’re no longer eligible. The Leander QuikTrip convenience store location could also see a major payout to the tune of $250,000 as a retailer bonus for selling the winning ticket.

“Saturday delivered a major win for a Texas Lottery player and an exciting moment for our state,” Courtney Arbour, executive director of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, said in the announcement. “We look forward to congratulating our second Powerball Grand Prize winner in the last eight months when they come forward to claim the prize. Wins like this show the full impact that well-run Texas Lottery games have on players, retailers and our beneficiaries – public education and veterans’ services – across the Lone Star State.”

Texas has been a participant in the Powerball game since 2010, with the Lone Star State earning its first Powerball winner just a few years later, courtesy of a $40 million jackpot win in May 2013.
