The Welsh couple defied odds of more than 24 trillion-to-one to win their millions
A Powys couple who accomplished the near impossible – winning the lottery twice – have found a heart-warming way to share their remarkable good fortune.
Faye Stevenson-Davies, 43, a mental health practitioner, and her husband, Richard Davies, 49, initially became millionaires in June 2018 following a £1 million win in the EuroMillions Millionaire Maker draw. Seven years on, fortune smiled upon them once more when they matched five numbers and the Bonus Ball in the Lotto draw on November 26, 2025, claiming another £1 million.
According to National Lottery operator Allwyn, the probability of the same couple securing both prizes stands at more than 24 trillion to one. Yet Faye and Richard attribute their astonishing success to the strength of positive thinking.
“We always believed winning was possible,” Faye said, back in 2025. “Once we scooped £1 million and met hundreds of other lucky winners, we realised fairy tales do come true and there are winners everywhere. We knew the odds of it happening again were outrageous, but we’re proof that if you believe, anything is possible.”
The first time the couple won, they gifted people cars, donated a minibus to the local rugby team and helped friends and family. Sign up for the North Wales Live newsletter sent twice daily to your inbox
This time, rather than simply savouring their second jackpot, the couple have decided to dedicate it towards supporting a cause particularly meaningful to Faye, reports Wales Online.
Faye, from Brecon, revealed that their initial win had allowed her to return to further education and qualify as a pluralistic practitioner and EMDR therapist. Shortly afterwards, she joined South Powys Mind, where she has now worked as a therapist for over a year. “Every week I see first-hand how they provide support to the town as well as the wider rural community,” she said.
She has now resolved to help the charity in revamping its Wellbeing Centre as a gesture of gratitude for the invaluable work it carries out across the region.
“Winning £1 million on Lotto on top of our previous £1 million win has been incredible, and bringing some of our fellow lucky winners together at a place that means so much to me is the icing on the cake of a phenomenal six months,” she said.
“When we won for the second time, I was really keen to share some of that luck with South Powys Mind, to acknowledge the amazing work they do right across the region. With the launch of the new Lotto, it seemed appropriate to give the Wellbeing Centre a new look too.”
With fellow Lotto winners, among them sisters Tina Burgess and Karen Maddock – who scooped an extraordinary £18M – Faye and Richard spent a sweltering day repainting the centre’s principal areas, assembling furniture and showcasing their interior design talents.
Visibly moved by the dedication shown by all involved, she said: “Through my work I am also very aware of the importance that National Lottery funding can make, it has funded numerous projects for the charity and that’s only possible thanks to National Lottery players.”
South Powys Mind (formerly Brecon and District Mind) has been awarded £399,881 in National Lottery funding, with the latest grant arriving in January for the Sense of Belonging: Cynefin Project.
Marie Davies, CEO at South Powys Mind, said: “We support people in the community to manage their own mental health and wellbeing by offering a wide range of individual services, groups, courses, activities and development opportunities, to ensure that whatever the issue someone may be facing, we are able to help.
“These Lotto winners offering to help us has been an absolute treat. Their efforts and their generosity towards our charity has been incredible.
“The support of The National Lottery makes a huge difference to the work we are able to do but, on a grassroots level, winners rolling up their sleeves to give our Wellbeing Centre a new look will make such a difference to our service users, staff and volunteers and we’re over the moon.”
